Mama Monday #86
I worked a shift at the hospital Friday and wrote the following reflection after a visit with one of the patients I got to spend time with. I thought I’d share it with you today for this edition of Mama Monday: 😊
As I walked in, he looked at me with kind eyes and a warm,
worn smile.
As I sat down, the tears came— soft at first, then steady—
everything spilling out.
How much he missed and loved his wife and daughters.
How he wanted them to be happy, to get along, to
know—without question— how deeply he loved them.
He spoke of wanting to tell them plainly when he sees them
again, because there is no time left to waste.
He remembered fishing with one of his girls when she was
small as he looked back at treasured times together.
When I asked if he wanted to hear a song, he chose Randy
Travis’ cover of the song Peace in the Valley.
It’s been said that “he who sings prays twice,” and this
song became the right prayer for the right moment— a balm for both our souls.
He listened as the singer promised “There will be
peace in the valley for me someday…” and the hope in those words
settled gently over the room, a quiet blessing for him, for his family, for the
road ahead.
[Verse 1]
Well, I'm
tired and so weary, but I must go along
'Til the
Lord comes and calls me away
Where the
morning's so bright and the Lamb is the light
And the
night, night is as fair as the day
[Chorus]
There will
be peace in the valley for me some day
There will
be peace in the valley for me, oh, Lord, I pray
There'll be
no sadness, no sorrow, no trouble I see
There will
be peace in the valley for me
[Verse 2]
Well, the
flowers will be blooming and the grass will be green
And the
skies will be clear and serene
Where the
sun ever beams in this valley of dreams
And no
clouds there will ever will be seen
[Chorus]
There will
be peace in the valley for me some day
There will
be peace in the valley for me, oh, Lord, I pray
There'll be
no sadness, no sorrow, no trouble I see
There will
be peace in the valley for me
[Verse 3]
Well, the
bear will be gentle and the wolf will be tame
And the lion
shall lay down by the lamb
And the
beast from the wild shall be led by a child
And I'll be
changed, changed from this creature that I am
[Chorus]
There will
be peace in the valley for me some day
There will
be peace in the valley for me, oh, Lord, I pray
There'll be
no sadness, no sorrow, no trouble I see
There will
be peace in the valley for me someday
May you both have a taste of God’s peace—not someday but today…..
